This work, the title of which refers to a species of venomous snake, focuses on interactions between troops and sex workers near Naval Air Facility Atsugi (Kanagawa Prefecture), animated from a child’s perspective. Aihara’s works of this period often incorporate a documentary viewpoint of Japanese society at the time of his childhood.

This work was developed using multiple exposures and animation techniques while referencing the ukiyoe prints of Katsushika Hokusai. The color of the original film print had faded, but this time the vivid red color was restored by digitizing directly from the negatives. Born in 1944 in Kanagawa prefecture. After attending design school Aihara began working as a commercial animator in 1965 at Studio Zero. Around the same time, Aihara began making independent animation, starting with Rain (1965) as his first independent work. In 1974, Aihara left Studio Zero and traveled to Europe, returning to Japan and joining Oh! Production in 1975. In 1986, Aihara began his position as a lecturer in the moving image department at the Kyoto College of Art and guided the younger generation of artists (he later transferred to Kyoto University of the Arts). Besides his work at the university, he contributed to the popularization of independent animation through regional animation workshops as well as the establishment of Earth Club. He served in the international selection committee at the 5th International Animation Festival in Japan – HIROSHIMA ‘94. His representative works include Yamakagashi (Rhabdophis Tigrinus) (1972), Fairy Flower (1973), Stone (1975), Karma (1977), Under the Sun (1979), Dusk (1985), Image (Shadow) (1987), Wind (2000), Lotus (2007), as well as a collaborative work with Keiichi Tanaami, Breathing of the Wind: Animation Correspondence (2011). In 2011, Aihara passed away during his stay in Bali.
After a stingy man eats some cherry seeds, a cherry tree grows on his head and he gets into a lot of trouble. This animated film is a modern interpretation of the traditional Japanese Rakugo story ""Atama-yama"" set in contemporary Tokyo.
A very old crocodile, so old that he had witnessed the building of the pyramids, was suffering from rheumatism, and no longer able to catch his food. In desperation, he decided to eat his great grand son. Although his thousands of years of longevity entitled him to much respect, the family decided he would have to be put down. Unable to bear the disrespect of his family, the old crocodile said goodbye to the Nile. One day the old crocodile met an octopus. The octopus treated her new friend to a variety of fish that she caught just for him. When the night fell, he couldn’t restrain himself from eating one of the octopus’s legs. Since then, the old crocodile began to help himself to the octopus’ leg every night…
“Fig” is a part of the omnibus movie “Tokyo loop”, created by 16 artists’ short films based on the theme Tokyo. “Fig” is a part by Koji Yamamura. The Tokyo Tower and the window transform themselves into the characters, and roam in the night of Tokyo.

A polar bear who is very bored with various marine animals in the deep blue sea. It continues an ancient tradition of "Caricatures of Frolicking animals" in scroll painting-style; this time, "Frolicking Sea Animals," in animation form, with a play on Japanese and English language word-plays: "Hokyoku-Guma Suggoku Hima. / Polar bear bears boredom," "Kawauso Kawaisou./Other otter, poor otter," etc.
Born in 1964. During the 1990s, He was making films for children, "Pacusi", "Bavel's Book" and so on. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Short, "Mt. Head" (2002) had 6 grand prizes and selected 100 Films for a Century of Animation. "Franz Kafka's A Country Doctor" (2007) had 6 grand prizes, his films got awarded more than 160 prizes. He has been selected as the 2 place at 25 top short animated films directors over the last 25 years in 2021. His first feature film "Dozens of Norths" (2021) had Contrechamp Crystal Award at Annecy International Animation Film Festival. He is also active as a picture book author for "Viva Vegetables (Oyaoya Oyasai)", "Parade" and so on. He was awarded the Kawakita Prize and the Art Encouragement Prize in Japan and received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 2019. A member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a sub-chairman of the Japan Animation Association and a member of the board of directors of ASIFA. He is visiting professor of Tokyo Zokei University, China Academy of Art, Aichi University of the Arts and a professor of Tokyo University of the Arts since 2008.
